JAMB Subject Combination for Botany

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Botany under the Faculty of Sciences in the institutions listed above are:
Biology, Chemistry and any other Science subject.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) FED-OYEEKITI, UNIBADAN, FED-LAFIA, EBSU, MAUTECH, DELSU, UNN, RSUST, UNILAG and UNILORIN require Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics.

(ii) OAU requires Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and Mathematics or Physics.

(iii) IGBINEDION accepts Biology, Chemistry and one of Physics or Mathematics.

(iv) FUTO requires Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(v) SALEM, UNIBEN and UNILAG require Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

(vi) UNICAL requires Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

(vii) OSUSTECH requires Biology, Chemistry and any one of Mathematics, Physics and Agricultural Science.

(viii) KWASU requires English chosen course and any Two From Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Further Mathematics.

(ix) FUAM require Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates (JAMB Brochure for Botany)

To apply for Botany as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Botany)

(i) UNN requires credit in English language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics in the West African School Certificate Examination or G.C.E. ‘O’ level or its equivalent.

(ii) IGBINEDION accepts credit pass in Science Subject in lieu of Physics.

(iii) OAU accepts Agric Science.

(iv) UDUSOK and UNIMAID accept pass in Mathematics and English Language.

(v) DELSU does not require a credit in Physics but accepts a pass in English Language provided candidates has distinction in O/L Biology.

(vi) UNIUYO requires a Credit pass in Mathematics and Physics.

(vii) GOMSU accepts P7 in Physics.

(viii) UNIBEN and ABSU accept a pass in Physics.

(ix) UNIBADAN requires 5 or 6 ‘O’ level credits passes at one or two sittings include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any one or two of Physics, Geography and Agric Science.

(x) KSUST accepts Geography, Economics and Agriculture in lieu of Biology as O Level subjects.

(xi) JABU accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.

(xii) OOU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

(xiii) JABU accepts five O level credit passes in relevant subjects plus ND and NCE.

(xiv) FUAM Candidates seeking admission into any of these Programmes must possess five (5) credit passes which MUST be from one examination body (i.e. either WAEC or NECO) and obtained at NOT more than two (2) sittings. The Department does not accept the combination of both WAEC and NECO. Students of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi Pre-degree Remedial Science Programme who pass their end of session examinations are considered or admission on the condition that they also pass UTME. NOTE: Agricultural Science and Health Science shall NOT be accepted in place of Biology. Further Mathematics shall NOT be accepted in place of Physics or Mathematics.

(xv) GODFREY accepts credit pass in any other Science subject in lieu of Physics.

(xvi) PAUL requires five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

(xvii) ABSU requires five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

(xviii) OSUSTECH requires five O’ level credit passes in English language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and any one of Agricultural Science, Physics and Geography.

(xix) KWASU requires credit passes from English Language, Mathematics and any three of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics and Agricultural Science.

(xx) MCPHERSON accepts Five ‘O’ level credit passes in relevant subjects plus ND(upper credit), HND (upper credit) and NCE (merit).

(xxi) FED-OYEEKITI accepts five ‘O’ level Credit passes to include English language and Mathematics and any three of Biology, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Agricultural Science and Geography.

(xxii) BSU for Plant Science and Biotechnology accepts passes in five (5) prescribed subjects in Preliminary Science of BSU in addition to minimum UTME score

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

To apply for Botany as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: Two ‘A’ level passes in Biology/Botany/Zoology and Chemistry or Physics.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) GOMSU, UNIBADAN, OAU and UNICAL require Chemistry.

(ii) UDUSOK, UNIMAID and RSUST accept ND/HND in relevant fields.

(iii) RSUST accepts ND/HND (v) AAUA and JOS accept ND (upper credit) in Forestry and HND (pass) in Forestry and other relevant discipline.

(iv) AL-HIKMAH and PHC – No Direct Entry.

(v) UNIUYO accepts ND (upper Credit)/HND (lower credit) in relevant fields plus UTME requirements.

(vi) UNILAG accepts very good passes in the following three JUPEB/A-LEVEL subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics.

(vii) MOUAU accepts GCE A’ Level in Chemistry and Biology /Botany.

(viii) UNIBEN in addition to UTME requirements accepts ND (Upper credit) / HND (Lower credit) in Food Technology or Science Laboratory Technology; NCE(credit) in Biology/Chemistry.

(ix) IGBINEDION accepts credit pass in Botany plus one of Biology, Zoology or Chemistry. Also accepts ND/HND (lower credit) in Biology, Food Technology or Botany.

(x) DELSU accepts NCE (merit pass) in Biology and any other two subjects.

(xi) MAUTECH accepts HND (lower credit) in relevant field but NOT ND.

(xii) UNICAL requires ‘A’ level passes / NCE at merit level or above in: Biology and Chemistry plus ‘O’ level Physics or Mathematics at credit level.

(xiii) MAUTECH for Biotechnology requires two A’ level passes in Biology and Chemistry.

(xiv) CRESCENT requires at least two ‘A’ level passes in Biology and either Physics or Chemistry and IJMB at acceptable grade levels.

(xv) FUTO accepts credit pass in ‘A’ level Mathematics. Also accepts ND/HND at Upper Credit level in relevant fields.

(xvi) UNILORIN accepts NCE passes in Biology and Chemistry plus UTME requirements.

(xvii) UNN requires:

a) Passes at ‘principal’ level in the Higher School Certificate Examination or G.C.E. ‘A’ level or its equivalent in Chemistry and Biology or Botany or Zoology in addition to UTME requirements.

b) Merit pass in NCE in Biology and Chemistry from a recognized institution, plus University minimum entry requirements.

(xviii) LASU accepts two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Physics.

(xix) OAU accepts Two `A’ level passes in Chemistry, Botany or Biology.

(xx) SALEM and PAUL accept passes in Biology/Zoology, Botany and Chemistry in GCE ‘A’ or HSC Principal Level examinations or any other equivalent examination.

(xxi) OSUSTECH requires:

a) Two A’ level passes in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

b) National Diploma (ND) with Distinction and credit passes in relevant subjects.

(xxii) FED-OYEEKITI accepts two A level passes in any of biology, botany, chemistry, geography, mathematics or Physics.

(xxiii) GODFREY for Biotechnology requires two “A” level passes in Chemistry and any one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology. ND/NCE with good grade in relevant “O” level subjects.

(xxiv) KWASU accepts:

a) Two G.C.E. A/L or its equivalent, one of which must be in relevant subject.

b) ND with (minimum Upper Credit) in relevant field.

c) HND (lower credit) in relevant field.

d) NCE Candidate with minimum of Credit passes in relevant subjects may be considered for Direct Entry Admission provided they possess the necessary O’L requirements

(xxv) FUAM requires ‘A’ Level GCE passes in Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics MUST be obtained. NCE, ND, and HND graduates in Science/ Technology with credit level passes in the relevant subjects must be considered in addition to UTME requirements.

(xxvi) UNIBADAN requires two ‘A’ level subjects in Botany, Chemistry or Botany / Biology.

(xxvii) EBSU accepts HND, NCE and ND with a minimum of Merit and Upper credit respectively in the relevant fields.

(xxviii) BASU accepts IJMB/A Level/GCE A Level Credit passes in Biology, Chemistry or its equivalent. National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in with at least Lower Credit in the following areas: Science Lab Technology, Wild Life and Forestry, Environmental Management Technology. The candidate must also have the 5 O’ Level requirements in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
