JAMB Brochure for Education and Social Science Under Faculty of Education

This part of the JAMB brochure shows you the requirements to apply for Education and Social Science under the Faculty of Education in Nigeria. You will see the UTME subject combination needed to apply for the course, O’level requirements for UTME candidates, requirements such A’level, ND, HND, NCE, etc for Direct Entry candidates, as well as other information you require to successfully apply for the course.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Education and Social Science under the Faculty of Education in the institutions listed above are:

Any three Social Science Subjects.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UNN:
a. For Education/Geography: English Language, Geography, plus any other two (2) subjects
b. For Education/Economics: English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any other Social Science subject.
c. For Education/Political Science: English Language, Government, plus any other two subjects.
d. For Education/Social Studies: English Language, plus any other three Social Science/Arts subjects.

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates

To apply for Education and Social Science as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes or equivalent to include English Language and Mathematics.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UI: does not accept Home Economics. Accepts TC II (1967-1981). Also requires 5/6 credits at one/two sitting(s) to include Eng. Lang and other subjects from arts, Soc. Science or Science.

(ii) EBSU requires credit pass in Mathematics

(iii) UNIPORT requires subject or the teaching
subject relevant to the Teaching subject. Also requires Mathematics for Economics and Accounting and for Political Science requires Government or History.

(iv) UNN:
(a) Requires five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, a science subject and the subject to be combined with education.
(b) For Social Studies/Education: credit pass in three Social science or Arts subjects are required
(c) Credit pass in Mathematics and Economics for Education/Economics.
(d) Credit pass in Government for Political science/Education”
(e) Credit in Geography, plus any other three subjects and a pass in mathematics for Education/Geography.

(v) NDU requires five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any other three subjects, two of which must be social science subjects in not more than two sittings.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

To apply for Education and Social Science as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: (i) NCE in two relevant subjects.

(ii) Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UI – and EBSU require credit in Mathematics for Economics and pass for other options.

(ii) EBSU accepts NCE Social Studies.

(iii) UNN accepts:
a. UTME requirement plus two “A’ level passes in relevant subjects which should include candidates proposed course.
b. NCE credit/merit passes in addition to TC II or ‘O’ level credit in relevant subjects.
c. “Candidates must satisfy the UTME requirements.

(iv) Candidates with ND at distinction, credit and merit levels in other disciplines who possess the University Minimum entry requirement plus at least relevant credit passes in WASSCE and NECO O ‘level may be offered admission but will run the 4-Year programme.

(v) NDU – Same as Vocational and Technical Education.
