Junior WAEC 2025 Questions and Answers English Language [Numbers 1 – 10]

COMPREHENSION – PASSAGE I

INSTRUCTION: Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions 1 – 5 on it.

But when we speak of the entertainment industry, we are generally referring not to these semi-public bodies but to the vast network of companies, which promote entertainment for profit. This industry has interest in all indoor and occasionally, certain outdoor entertainment other than purely sporting events such as athletic meetings, games, matches and boxing tournaments.

Commercial television is an important aspect of the entertainment industry. But entertainment programmes on most African television screens are used for advertisement. In Nigeria for instance, commercial institutions that want to advertise their products or to popularize their companies use popular actors or comedians to entertain viewers. Television authorities in Nigeria make huge profit from those advertisement, which make use of popular folk music or drama, comedy or tragedy. The cinema is another source of entertainment. From about 1925 to 1955, the cinema which was the giant in the world of entertainment began losing the popularity they enjoyed before the 1960’s because of the introduction of television and video sets in most Nigeria homes.

Besides, the increasing crime wave in the country discouraged cinema fans from leaving the shelter of their homes to go to the various outings at night.

1. Letter to My Father

16, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street,
Surulere,
Lagos.
25/06/2025

Dear Father,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to explain the situation mentioned in the letter from the principal.

Yesterday, I had a misunderstanding with Mr. Adejimo Alao during class. He asked me to submit my homework, but I had forgotten to bring it to school. Out of frustration, I said some things that were disrespectful, but I did not intend to insult him.

I realize now that I should have handled the situation better. Ī deeply regret my actions and am truly sorry for any hurt I may have caused. I have already apologized to Mr. Alao, and I am working to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Please understand that it was a mistake, and I will strive to be more respectful and responsible in the future.

Yours sincerely,
Ejigbo Princewill

2. Letter to My Uncle

16, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street,
Surulere,
Lagos.
25/06/2025

Dear Uncle,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to share some challenges my family is facing due to the high cost of living here in Nigeria. Prices of basic necessities like food, fuel, and school fees have increased drastically, making it difficult for us to manage.

My parents are doing their best, but the strain is becoming overwhelming, especially with the rising costs of transportation and healthcare. We are finding it hard to make ends meet, and it is affecting our daily life.

I am kindly asking if you could assist us during this tough time. Any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated and would ease the burden we are carrying.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Warm regards,
Ejigbo Princewill

3. An Interesting Football Match I Have Watched

One of the most exciting football matches I’ve ever watched was between Nigeria and Argentina during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It was a do-or-die match for Nigeria, and the tension in the air was unbelievable. I remember watching it with my family, all of us glued to the screen.

The match started with Argentina taking the lead, but Nigeria fought back fiercely. The Nigerian players showed incredible determination, with Ahmed Musa scoring a stunning goal that had us all jumping and cheering. The game was fast-paced, and every pass, every tackle felt like it could change the outcome.

Unfortunately, Nigeria lost 2-1, but the way they played left me proud. It wasn’t just about winning or losing; it was about the spirit and teamwork they displayed. That match showed me how much football can unite people, and it remains one of the most memorable games I’ve ever watched.

Teachers Are More Important to Society Than Doctors

Teachers play a more vital role in society than doctors. While doctors are important in treating illnesses, teachers shape the future by molding young minds. A society cannot thrive without educated individuals, and teachers are the ones who provide this education. They instill knowledge, discipline, and critical thinking, which are necessary for all other professions, including medicine.

A doctor can only treat someone who has received an education, but a teacher can create a future doctor. It is teachers who lay the foundation for a successful society. Without teachers, there would be no doctors, engineers, or any other skilled professionals. Teachers build the very core of a community by imparting life lessons and academic knowledge that empower individuals to succeed.

While doctors heal the body, teachers heal the mind. The impact of a teacher lasts a lifetime, as they provide the tools for success, helping students overcome challenges and pursue their dreams. Teachers are the true architects of a society, for they shape the minds that drive progress.

In conclusion, teachers are more important than doctors because they are the ones who make everything else possible. They deserve our respect, recognition, and support.

Best wishes.
