Post secondary school education is otherwise referred to as tertiary education. It is the level of education that comes after a successful completion of high school. Although I shall still take some time and space to provide valuable insights into our subject, do bear in mind that post secondary schools include universities, colleges, trade and vocational schools. More so, post secondary school education often leads to the award of a diploma, certification or academic degree.
Very often, post secondary schools are decentralized from regulation by the federal government. This means that they are essentially independent from the government, with some of them being private institutions while other are public.
Some post secondary schools are small and affiliated with religious organizations whereas others are secular, rural, urban or suburban.

Like I’ve said earlier, post secondary school education refers to any form of education or training beyond high school. It includes, but is not limited to, universities, colleges, trade and vocational schools, and online institutions.
The period which a student undergoes post secondary school education is a transformative phase in their lives. That is usually the time they embark on a journey of self-discovery, knowledge acquisition and personal growth. So it forms a significant stepping stone towards their future careers and lifelong success.
In the following sections, I will show you the importance of post primary school education and why pursuing it is a crucial step in today’s world.

This is one of the most important advantages of post secondary school education. It’s got the potential to open doors to a wide range of career opportunities. 3. Trade and Vocational Schools
Trade and vocational schools are what some people specifically refer to as post secondary schools. They are dedicated to teaching specific trades and skills. For example, they offer programs in fields like carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, automotive repair and so on. These programs prepare students for immediate employment in their chosen industries.

In recent years, especially after the global lock-down, online education has gained popularity. This is because of the flexibility it offers for those who may be tied down by one commitment or the other. Various reputable post secondary institutions provide online programs, allowing students to earn degrees from the comfort of their homes.

So planning your finances is essential. Where are you going to get the money from? You can think about applying for scholarships and grants, exploring federal or private student loans, going for work-study programs, and creating a budget.

The application process comes after you have identified your goals, selected an institution, and sorted out your finances.

I’ve taken time to enumerate some of the benefits of post-secondary education but I won’t complete this piece without also showing you the challenges. Yes, post secondary school education comes with its fair share of challenges but you don’t need to worry because I will show you the best ways to overcome them.
So here are common obstacles that students going for post secondary education may face and how to address them.
1. Financial Hurdles
Sincerely speaking, the cost of post-secondary education can be very daunting. But you can overcome the challenge by doing the following:
- Explore scholarship and grant opportunities externally. Also inquire to know if your institution offers their own scholarships and see how to take advantage of it.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility for federal grants, work-study programs and student loans.
- In case federal aid is not sufficient to cover your expenses, you can also consider private student loans.
- Carefully manage your expenses.
2. Academic Pressure
The academic demands of post secondary school education can be overwhelming. There’s always so much to accomplish in so little time.
Therefore, you need to learn effective time management and study skills. You also need to normalize seeking help from professors or tutors. Those are very essential for success in tertiary institutions.

Many students are doing work-study programs. So they need to work while attending college to support themselves financially.
For such students, there is need to balance work and studies. This requires carefully planned commitment to both work and study. Might not be easy, but it’s certainly achievable.
