JAMB Subject Combination for Microbiology

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Microbiology under the Faculty of Sciences in the institutions listed above are:
Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Microbiology)

(i) UDU and FUTA accept Agric Science in lieu of Biology.

(ii) UNIOSUN, SALEM, MAKURDI, UNILAGOS, UNIBEN and ABU require Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

(iii) UNICAL and UNIUYO require Physics as third subject.

(iv) EVANGEL and AJAYI require Biology and Chemistry and any other Science subject.

(v) UNIOSUN requires Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry

(vi) FED-DUTSE:

(a) For Microbiology requires Biology and Chemistry and any other Science subject.

(b) For Environmental Science and Toxicology requires Chemistry, Biology and Geography or any other Science subject.

(vii) KWASU requires credit passes from English Language, Mathematics and any three of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics and Agricultural Science.

(viii) UNIPORT for Science Laboratory Technology

A. Requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for Geology and Mining Technology, Physics with Production Technology, Industrial and Petrochemical Technology and Physics with Electronic Technology options.

B. Requires Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics for Biochemistry and Chemistry Technology, Biomedical Technology and Microbiology technology options.

(ix) CRESCENT requires Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics/Geography.

(x) OSUSTECH requires Biology, Chemistry and any one of Agricultural Science, Mathematics and Physics.

(xi) FUTO requires Biology, Mathematics and Physics.

O’Level Requirements for Microbiology for UTME Candidates (JAMB Brochure for Microbiology)

To apply for Microbiology as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Microbiology)

(i) MADONNA and EBSU accept a pass in Physics with credit in Mathematics.

(ii) IMSU, ANSU, UNIUYO and EBSU accept a pass in English Language.

(iii) UI requires 5 or 6 ‘O’ level credits passes at one or two sittings include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any one or two of Physics, Geography and Agric Science.

(iv) UNIJOS accepts candidates with pass at the Remedial Science Programme of the University of UNIJos.

(v) UNIUYO requires a credit pass in English Language.

(vi) AJAYI requires five (5) credit passes must include: English Language, mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and one other science subject at one sitting or six (6) credits at not more than two sittings.

(vii) BOWEN does not accept Agric. Science as another Science subject

(viii) FUAM and KWASU –

(a) Candidates seeking admission into any of these Programmes must possess five (5) credit passes which MUST be from one examination body (i.e. either WAEC or NECO) and obtained at NOT more than two (2) sittings. The Department does not accept the combination of both WAEC and NECO. Students of FUAM Pre-degree Remedial Science Programme who pass their end of session examinations are considered or admission on the condition that they also pass UTME.

(b) NOTE: Agricultural Science and Health Science shall NOT be accepted in place of Biology. Further Mathematics shall NOT be accepted in place of Physics or Mathematics.

(ix) RHEMA and JABU accept Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.

(x) UNIOSUN accepts Geography or Economics in lieu of Physics.

(xi) GO, PLSU and UNILAGOS accepts credit pass in any other Science subject in lieu of Physics.

(xii) FUTA requires five o’ level credit passes, which must include English language, Biology or Agricultural Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and Physics at NOT more than two sittings.

(xii) REDEEMER’S requires five ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry Biology and Physics.

(xiv) FUTMINNA requires at least a pass in Physics with Credit pass in any other Science subject.

(xv) KWASU requires credit passes from English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and any two of Biology, Physics, Further Mathematics or Agricultural Science.

(xvi) EVANGEL accepts any other Science subject in lieu of Physics.

(xvii) FED-DUTSE:

(a) For Environmental Science and Toxicology accepts credit pass in Geography in lieu of Physics.

(b) For Microbiology accepts any other Science subject in lieu of Physics.

(xviii) KSUSTA accepts credit pass in Geography or Agricultural Science in lieu of Physics.

(xix) OSUSTECH requires five O’ level credit passes in English language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and any one of Agricultural Science, Physics and Geography.

(xx) CRESCENT requires credit passes in five SSCE/GCE/NECO subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Geography with at least a pass in Physics, Biology and Agric Science.

(xxi) BSU for Microbiology accepts passes in five (5) prescribed subjects in Preliminary Science of BSU in addition to minimum UTME score.

(xxii) UNN requires O’ level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(xxiii) UNIBEN for Science Laboratory Technology requires five O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and any two of Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science and Geography, depending on the option chosen by the candidate. Candidates opting for Physic/Electronics, Petrochemical Geology and Physiology/Pharmacology Techniques must have credit in Physics.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates (JAMB Brochure for Microbiology)

To apply for Microbiology as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one from Biology, Zoology or Botany

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Microbiology)

(i) EBSU accepts ND (Science or Food Technology) at Upper Credit Level.

(ii) EBSU and RSUST accept ND/HND.

(iii) UI does not accept ‘A’ level Zoology.

(iv) IMSU, UNIPORT and ABSU – No Direct Entry Admission.

(v) RHEMA, UDU, FUTMINNA accept ND/HND lower credit in addition to ‘O’ level credit pass in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and other science subjects.

(vi) AAU accepts only first degree and five ‘O’ level credits in relevant subjects.

(vii) AAUA accepts ND (Upper Credit)/HND (lower credit) in the relevant fields.

(viii) FUTA, the candidate must possess in addition to the UTME requirements at least two subjects at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L) which must include Biology and either Chemistry or Mathematics. Holders of National Diploma from a recognized institution with a minimum grade of Upper Credit in relevant disciplines are also eligible for admission.

(ix) UNILAG accepts very good passes in the following three JUPEB/A-LEVEL subjects: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

(x) MOUA requires A’ level Chemistry and Biology/Botany/Zoology

(xi) FUTMINNA accept ND/HND with at least lower credit plus four ‘O’ level credit passes in relevant subjects.

(xii) DELSU accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Science Laboratory Technology.

(xiii) IGBINEDION accepts ND/NCE in Biology, Food Technology or Botany.

(xiv) ANSU accepts ND/HND/NCE (lower credit) in any related Science discipline with Biology Major in the combination.

(xv) FUTO requires at least two ‘A’ Level passes not below Grade C in Chemistry and one of Physics or Biology. It accepts ND/HND (Upper Credit) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Microbiology, Science Laboratory Technology, Physics and Geology. Candidates must in addition meet the UTME ‘O’ Level requirements. It does not accept First Degree and NCE.

(xvi) UNIBEN in addition to UTME requirements, accepts:

(a) ND (Upper credit) / HND (Lower credit) in Food Technology or Science Laboratory Technology;

(b) NCE (Overall Merit) with Credit pass in Biology.

(xvii) UNIUYO accepts ND/HND in relevant fields plus UTME requirements.

(xviii) UNICAL require two ‘A’ level passes from Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

(xix) UNIMAID accepts HND in Microbiology and related field.

(xx) AJAYI requires A’ level passes in Biology and Chemistry plus UTME requirements.

(xxi) CRESENT same as in Biodiversity Conservation and Utilization Level IJAMB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent in Botany, Zoology, Biology and Chemistry.

(xxii) BIU requires in addition to the O’ level requirements specified , a minimum of two relevant subjects passed at GCE Advanced level or NCE (3 merits) or National Diploma in relevant field not below credit level.

(xxiii) UNIOSUN requires Two ‘A’ Level passes from Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Accepts a minimum of Lower Credit in ND and approved equivalents.

(xxv) AUN accepts:

(a) ‘A’ level passes chosen from English Language, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Literature in English, Government, History, Economics, Geography, Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Visual Arts, Computer Studies, Information Technology, Civics, and French.

(b) does not accept credit passes in the following; Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, Home Economics, Home Craft, Home management, Physical Education, Physical and Health Education, Music, Commerce, Accounting, Financial Accounting, Book keeping, Islamic History, Religious Studies, Tajweed, Library Studies, Diction, Kiswahili, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Arabic, Turkish, Study skills.

(c) accepts ICGSE and ‘A’ level Cambridge and does not offer admissions direct to 200 level programs. May transfer credits relevant to it’s major at the discretion of the Dean of school.

(xxvi) CRAWFORD accepts ND/NCE in Biology, Food Technology, Science Laboratory Technology or Botany

(xxvii) UNN accepts passes at Higher School Certificate or GCE A/L in Chemistry and Biology, or Chemistry and Zoology, or Chemistry and Botany in addition to the UTME entry requirement.

(xxviii) EVANGEL accepts NCE or ND in related field in addition to UTME requirements.

(xxix) FED-DUTSE accepts ND (merit) and IJMB with minimum of eight points.

(xxx) FUAM requires ‘A’ Level GCE passes in Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics MUST be obtained. NCE, ND, and HND graduates in Science/ Technology with credit level passes in the relevant subjects must be considered in addition to UTME requirements.

(xxxi) KWASU accepts:

a) Two G.C.E. A/L or its equivalent, one of which must be in relevant field.

b) ND with minimum of upper credit in relevant subject;

c) HND with lower credit in the relevant field.

(xxxii) CRUTECH accepts ND/HND (lower credit) in Biology, Biotechnology, Zoology, Microbiology, Botany, Laboratory Science, or related fields plus UTME requirement

(xxxiii) CRUTECH same as in Biodiversity Conservation and Utilization Level IJAMB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent in Botany, Zoology, Biology and Chemistry.

(xxxiv) RENAISSANCE requires ND (Upper Credit) from a recognised institution plus UTME requirements.

(xxxv) KSUSTA requires GCE A’ level, NCE, IJMB or equivalent in Biology and Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Technical Drawing in addition to O’ level requirement. It also accepts ND/HND at credit level in relevant fields.

(xxxvi) OSUSTECH requires

(a) Two A’ level passes in Biology, Chemistry or Physics

(b) National Diploma (ND) with Distinction and Credit passes in relevant subjects.

(xxxvi) MCPHERSON accepts ND ( at least upper credit) or HND(at least lower credit)in relevant course is acceptable. O/L credit in either Physics or Mathematics in addition to ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Biology is acceptable.

(xxxvii) CALEB accepts ND at Credit level in Science Laboratory Technology or Sciences related studies may be considered for admission by direct entry provided they have the UME subjects at one sitting.

(xxxviii) CRESCENT accepts

(a) CRESCENT accepts IJMB and ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or Geography at acceptable grades.

(b) ND, HND or its equivalent in Agric or Civil Engineering or elated courses provided the O’ level requirements have been met can be admitted into 200 level.

(xxxix) BSU for Environmental Management and Toxicology accepts holders of ND/HND (upper credit) in Health Technology, Agriculture and other related fields.

(lx) UMYUK requires at least two A’ level credits from Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry etc. Candidates must have A level Biology. NCE candidates must have Biology and Chemistry.

(lxi) SOUTHWESTERN accepts

a. NCE (credit) in Biology or Chemistry. A’ level Chemistry and Biology/Botany/Zoology.

b. Accepts merit in ND (upper credit) or HND in relevant courses is acceptable. O/L credit in either Physics or Mathematics in addition to ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Biology is acceptable.

(lxii) BENIN for Science Laboratory Technology in addition to UTME requirements may accepts at least two advance level passes in the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) or Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its recognized equivalents at not more than two sittings. The subjects should be of the Sciences.

(lxiii) BAUCHI accepts IJMB/A Level/GCE A Level Credit passes in Biology, Chemistry and anyone of Mathematics, Physics or Agric Science. National Diploma (ND) with at least Lower Credit in the following areas: Science Lab Technology and Food Science Technology. The candidate must also have the 5 O’ Level requirements in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
