JAMB Brochure for Music. This part of the JAMB brochure shows you the requirements to apply for Music under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Nigeria. You will see the UTME subject combination needed to apply for the course, O’level requirements for UTME candidates, requirements such A’level, ND, HND, NCE, etc for Direct Entry candidates, as well as other information you require to successfully apply for the course.

JAMB Subject Combination for Music

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Music under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in the institutions listed above are: Music, one other Arts subject plus any other subject.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Music)

(i) LASU accepts Music plus any two other subjects. UI and UNIZIK accept any three Arts or Social Science subjects.

(ii) BU requires any of Literature in English or CRS as the other subject.

(iii) UNN and UNIPORT accept any three subjects.

(iv) OAU accepts any three subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Sciences.

O’Level Requirements for Music for UTME Candidates

To apply for Music as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes including Music and English Language.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Music)

(i) BU accepts Music Society of Nigeria’s Grade V Certificate, Trinity College of Music Grade V certificate and Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music Grade V Certificate and other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(ii) OAU and UI – Credit pass in Music is not compulsory.

(iii) UNIUYO does not insist on Credit pass in Music at SSCE. If a candidate earns a Grade V certificate in the Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Examination or Music Society of Nigeria (MUSON) Examination, it will be an added advantage.

(iv) UNIPORT accepts credit passes in English Language and any other four subjects (a credit pass in Music is an added advantage).

(v) UNIJOS requires five O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Literature in English and any Arts/Social Science subjects at not more than two sittings.

DIRECT ENTRY AND UTME

(i) UNN and UNIUYO require candidates to pass Audition test which is held on the last Thursday and Friday of August every year.

(ii) UNIUYO does not insist on Credit pass in Music at SSCE

(iii) OAU accepts candidate with credit in English Language and four other subjects but with no qualification or certificate in Music may be considered provided they posses UTME requirements.

(iv) DELSU does not insist on credit pass in Music at O/Level Both UTME and DE candidates must pass its departmental audition test.

(v) UNIZIK does not require credit in Music but does accepts a pass in English Language.

(vi) LASU accepts NCE (merit) in Music Education, Music Technology/Music from recognized institutions.

(vii) OAU requires credit in another language, African or European.

(viii) DELSU accepts HND )Upper credit) into 300 level. Also accepts Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Grade.

(ix) UNIPORT – No Direct Entry.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates (JAMB Brochure for Music)

To apply for Music as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: Two ‘A’ level passes to include Music.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Music)

(i) UNIUYO accepts ND

(ii) UNN accepts:

a. for 3 Years Pass in NCE (single major), NCE (double major), and ND in music.

b. Music Society of Nigeria’s Grade V Certificate.

c. Trinity College of Music Grade V certificate

d. Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade V certificate.

e. For 2 Years NCE (Double Major in Music Education) not less than lower credit (Merit).

(ii) UNIPORT – No Direct Entry.

(iii) OAU accepts:

(a) NCE in Music (double major) merit above

(b) ABRSM Grade VIII Certificate

(c) Certificate in Music (Ife) or

(iv) LASU accepts:

(a) NCE (Music) with at least merit passes

(b) ND (Music/Music Technology)

(c) (a) – (c) in addition to five credit passes in O’ level at not more than two sittings to include English Language and any combination of Arts and Sciences.

(v) BU accepts A’ level pass in Mathematics or other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(vi) UI accepts:

a. ND / HND in Music from recognized institutions with a minimum of an upper credit will be admitted into the 200 level of study.

b. An ‘A’ Level pass in Music plus any other two ‘A’ Level subjects will be admitted into the 200 level of study.

c. NCE with major in Music and any other subject with a minimum of an upper credit or merit will be admitted into the 200 level of study.

d. Grade VIII Theory ABRSM or MUSON Certificate with any good HND or degree certificate will be admitted into the 200 level of study.

(vii) UNIJOS accepts MUSIC major in relevant fields such as Theatre Arts, ND I MUSIC at credit level or NCE Music Education at credit/merit level/JMB A’ level in Music in addition to O’ level requirement.

(viii) OAU accepts NCE in Music or ABRSM London (Grade VIII) or their equivalents
