JAMB Subject Combination for Pure / Applied Mathematics

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Pure / Applied Mathematics under the Faculty of Sciences in the institutions listed above are:
Mathematics, Physics and Biology or Agric Science or Chemistry or Geography

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UNIBEN accepts Mathematics, Physics and any of Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science.

(ii) UNIPORT requires Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Economics and does not accept Geography

O’Level Requirements for Pure / Applied Mathematics for UTME Candidates (JAMB Brochure for Pure / Applied Mathematics)

To apply for Pure / Applied Mathematics as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes including English Language, Physics, Maths, Chemistry and Biology/Agric Science or Geography

(i) UNIPORT requires Biology.

(ii) UNIBEN accepts Economics as the fifth subject.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates (JAMB Brochure for Pure / Applied Mathematics)

To apply for Pure / Applied Mathematics as a Direct Entry candidate, you require:

(i) Two ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics and any other Science subject.

(ii) NCE/HND (merit) /ND (Upper credit) in Mathematics

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Pure / Applied Mathematics)

(i) LAUTECH accepts ND (upper credit), HND (lower credit), NCE (credit) in relevant fields into 200 level or ‘A’ Level Passes in Mathematics , Physics, Chemistry or Biology

(ii) UNIPORT – No Direct Entry.

(iii) UNIBEN in addition to UTME requirements, accepts:

(a) ND (Upper credit) / HND (Lower credit) in Mathematics / Statistics or Science Laboratory Technology;

(b) NCE (Overall Merit) with credit passes in Mathematics and Physics.

(iv) PAUL accepts passes in Mathematics, Pure and Applied Physics or Chemistry or Biology or Statistics at GCE Advanced or its equivalent
