You will see the UTME subject combination needed to apply for the course, O’level requirements for UTME candidates, requirements such A’level, ND, HND, NCE, etc for Direct Entry candidates, as well as other information you require to successfully apply for the course.

JAMB Subject Combination for Mass Communication

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Mass Communication under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in the institutions listed above are: Any three Arts and Social Science subjects.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Mass Communication)

(i) BINGHAM and UNIJOS require Literature in English.

(ii) UNN and UNIBEN requires Literature in English and any two subjects out of which one must be in the Arts or Social Science.

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates (JAMB Brochure for Mass Communication)

To apply for Mass Communication as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Mass Communication)

(i) UNN require a pass in Mathematics.

(ii) UNIJOS and UNN require a credit pass in Literature in English.

(iii) ABSU requires credit in Literature in English, English Language and any other three subjects plus at least a pass in Mathematics.

(iv) AJAYI requires credit passes must include English Language, Literature in English and three other subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.

(v) CU requires ‘O’ level five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English, one Science subject from Biology, Health/General Science, Agric. Science., Physics and Chemistry one from Social Science or Arts. Social Science subject such as Geography, Economics, Government, Commerce, Principle of Account, Book Keeping. Arts such as Bible Knowledge, History etc.

(vi) UNIBEN requires five ‘O’ level credit passes or five level passes in T.C. II or equivalent qualification at not more than two sittings. Subjects should include English Language and any two Arts subjects

(vii) UNN requires credit level passes in Literature- in-English and an approved science subject plus at least a pass in Mathematics.

(viii) PLASU – Same as in English Language.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

To apply for Mass Communication as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks (JAMB Brochure for Mass Communication)

(i) BINGHAM accepts ND (Upper credit) in Public Administration and other related fields. Requires two A’ level passes to include Government or History.

(ii) AJAYI requires two ‘A’ level passes (or equivalents) in Literature in English and one other Arts or Social Science subject, plus 3 ‘O’ level credit passes.

(iii) UNN accepts candidates must possess HSC/.GCE A’ level with pass in two Arts subjects plus UTME requirements.

(iv) UNIJOS accepts same in Mass Communication plus a pass in Mathematics.

(v) UNIBEN accepts:

a. ND Mass Communication in the Upper Credit division or its equivalent.

b. GCE Advance Level of HSC with passes in Literature, History and CRK or any other Arts or Social Science subjects.

c. NCE in Theatre Arts or relevant areas with credit.
