What is UNEC?

UNEC is one of the several campuses of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Actually, it is the first daughter of the mothering Nsukka campus, birthed in 1961 in a serene corner of the very heart of Enugu city. It is a professional training hub for thousands of bright intellectual minds on an unwavering quest for academic conquest.

What is UNEC Portal?

UNEC portal is an online platform where both fresh and returning students can interface with the school management in matters like school fees payment, course registration, taking CBT examinations, checking of results and so on. It is the same thing as UNEC website.

You can access the UNEC Portal by following this link: https://unecportal.edu.ng/

Via the portal, you can also read information about the courses offered in UNEC Enugu.

Which Faculties are in UNEC?

There are courses, faculties and colleges that most people term, “The pride of University Of Nigeria.” Those are the professionals courses and most of them are offered in UNEC.

So the faculties in the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus include the following six:

  • Law Faculty (the oldest Law Faculty in Nigeria).
  • Business administration Faculty.

  • The Preclinical classes in Medicine & Surgery and Dental Surgery….

The first three faculties mentioned above have their first years starting in UNEC. The rest will spend their first one year (i.e. year 1) in Nsukka and then cross over to Enugu Campus.

The medical science and Dental surgery have their faculties at UNTH Ituku-Ozalla. So what does that imply? It means that after Pre-clinicals, students of the two faculties proceed to hostels at old UNTH and finally to UNTH Ituku.

The majority of other courses offered by UNN are in the main campus of the university at Nsukka town.

Law students are known for their smart sense of corporate fashion and pompous carriage. They belong to the black and white community notorious for their obnoxious tendencies towards unending bouts of arguments and debates. Everyone admires the eloquence and outspokenness of students in this community.

The business students of the black and blue community also have the culture of corporate dressing. You can always see them dashing towards their various classes in a bid to grasp the intricacies of money, finance and thriving economies.

The average preclinical student has no form of identity coated in fashion, but their lab coats usually sell them out as they journey to and fro the laboratories for practicals.

The Exact Location of UNEC

University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus is domiciled in the very heart of Enugu Town. It is at UNEC Road, New Layout, just behind Independence Layout, Enugu 400105, Enugu.

Enugu Campus Gate

UNEC Main Gate

The new look of Enugu campus gate can be summarized as a perfect blend of art, architecture and engineering. There you can see a majestic sculpture of the king of the jungle standing in full glare of roving eyes. The campus gate is a major bus stop for commercial transporters, showing how popular the campus is in the host city.

Hostels in UNEC, Enugu

There are two buildings housing the boys — the Kenneth Dike and Maazi Mbonu Ojike hostels. Kenneth Dike hostel is nicknamed “IJ” while Ojike hostel goes by the name “GH”. Initially, Dike (IJ) accommodated the law, environmental and business boys, where they retire for the day to argue about girls, football and politics. While Ojike (GH) hosted the medical students. But this arrangement has since been altered.

UNEC also has Ojukwu, Manuwa, Adelabu, Mariere, and Lady Ibiam hostels. They all house the females. However, the biggest and best female hostel in Enugu campus is Lady Ibiam. I almost forgot to mention presidential hostel exclusively reserved for the “ajebos”.

Night Life in Enugu Campus

Because UNEC plays host to several professional courses, many people wonder if there is any such thing as night life. The truth is that despite the thick air of studiousness that hovers the atmosphere of the campus, a typical night in UNEC can be fun or dull depending on CHOICE.

While some boys are queueing up to get a plate of food at Chinasa’s place, some gentlemen are somewhere at Adamu’s kiosk waiting for their noodles to be done.

At the same time, classrooms meant to be dead with darkness of the night come alive with lights shining from the lamps of nightcrawlers who have gone to feast on the pages of their books in the sacred name of night class.

But while some have come for serious business of reading, majority are looking for breasts to press, and lips to kiss. Those who find may go as far as finding a secluded spot to do the do.

The girls’ hostels are always the heart of night activities. There are boys perching and hanging at every corner of them, like vultures patiently waiting for the feast of a dying carcass.

While the other hostels see a few of the august night visitors coming to them; Lady Ibiam boasts of seemingly monopolizing the patronage of “konjified” boys, plus a teeming influx of working-class gentlemen arriving in their exotic cars to engage the campus boys in an oppressive competition for their hard-earned girlfriends.

UNEC Love Garden

UNEC Love Garden

So we have a love garden at The Faculty of Environmental Sciences. Just in case you are coming to Enugu Campus to satisfy the desires of your flesh (I mean to fornicate), that place is very cool and dark at night.

So parents hustle money to send their children to school but they come here to fool themselves in the name of falling in love. Of course, the love garden is free. No need to book a hotel or beg your roommate to leave the room for you.

Interesting fact: If you are vying for a post in SUG and you fix light there as a sign of good deed, just forget it. In short, just know you have lost the contest. You no go win the election….

Food and Eateries in UNEC

Foods and feeding within the campus are generally affordable. All thanks to the welfare SUG for the great job they are doing.

The following eateries quickly come to mind…

  • Chinasa at boys hostel.
  • Family and friends.
  • The woman with her children beside GH. (friends, her jellof rice is cool)

Then others like Kirsh, Oga Emma and them them them.

For guys that will be staying at GH, just respect yasef when you go to that canteen in GH to buy something. The canteen man is old but he can still terrorize you.

Class and Sophistry…

Unlike other campuses of University of Nigeria, UNEC enjoys some degree of class and sophistry.

High class malls, stores, and restaurants are in Enugu, and very close to UNEC. For example, Shoprite, SPAR, Roban Stores, Kilimanjaro, Octopus (Chinese restaurant), Roots, Crunchies and so on, are not too far from UNEC.

Now for your information, UNĒC is not a place you buy 1000 Naira okpa and coke for a lady and she will just start crawling after you or “darling-ying” you. This is certainly not to rule out the fact that there are still cheap girls in some communities in here.

Spirituality in UNEC

UNEC is arguably the most spiritual varsity in the whole of the government-owned varsities in Nigeria. So we have this prayer ground. They call it VICTORY ground.

Even if you come there by 1, 2 or 3 O’clock in the morning, any day any time, you must see somebody shouting on top of their voice calling on Jehovah to help or to have mercy. Interestingly, that’s when you will know that people are really in the lions Den.

There is St. Mulumba for the Catholics, and there is chapel of redemption for the Pentecostals. There are also empty class halls for the gathering of like minded brethren to examine the printed letters of the living word of the Lord on Sundays.

The Muslims manage a makeshift space at IJ’s reading room, where they seek unruffled reverence to holy name of Allah.

The Rich Kids in UNEC

I couldn’t have ended this piece without mentioning the rich kids in Enugu campus. Many are not aware that the elites in political, academic and business spaces have their children mostly in UNEC. I know several of them in Law faculty and Medicine.

See eh…you are not just in school to gain knowledge. You are also in school to connect and network with people to increase your social capital. If you can connect normally with a rich kid on this campus and maintain the relationship, your life and destiny may change.

Academics and Examinations in UNEC

In more ways than one, UNEC Enugu is different from the Nsukka campus. That’s part of the reasons why most people refer to her as the real den for real lions and lionesses.

If you are coming to UNĒC, you have to step up your game. You have to be up and doing, smart and elegant. You have to, as a matter of necessity, learn to mind your business and face what is facing you. Read as if your life depends on it. This is absolutely important to survive in the campus and avoid premium tears.

The toughest exam that sends trickles in the whole Nigeria is always written in UNĒC by the Faculty of Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Dentistry and Dental Surgery. That’s the MBBS exam.

So this is Welcoming you to University of Nigeria Enugu Campus.
