Wow
happy I met this before my exam o. kudos to you sir
why not practise the questions and hope for the best
Haha tomorrow is my day.
can you please explain how you got 66.67% as %CaO in the mixture in question 3 of the chemistry JAMB question?
U can goggle the question and u will see an explanation
To calculate the percentage of CaO in the mixture, we need to find the mass of CaCO3 that decomposed to produce the 0.44 g of CO2.
1 mole of CaCO3 produces 1 mole of CO2, and the molar masses are:
CaCO3: 40.08 g/mol (Ca) + 12.01 g/mol (C) + 3 * 16.00 g/mol (O) = 100.09 g/mol
CO2: 12.01 g/mol (C) + 2 * 16.00 g/mol (O) = 44.01 g/mol
Now, we can calculate the number of moles of CO2 produced:
0.44 g CO2 / 44.01 g/mol = 0.01 mol CO2
Since 1 mole of CaCO3 produces 1 mole of CO2, the same amount of moles of CaCO3 decomposed to produce the CO2. Therefore, the mass of CaCO3 that decomposed is 0.01 mol * 100.09 g/mol = 1 g.
Now, to find the mass of CaO in the mixture, subtract the mass of CaCO3 from the total mass of the mixture:
Mass of CaO = Total mass – Mass of CaCO3 = 3 g – 1 g = 2 g
Finally, calculate the percentage of CaO in the mixture:
Percentage of CaO = (Mass of CaO / Total mass of the mixture) * 100
Percentage of CaO = (2 g / 3 g) * 100 ≈ 66.67%
So, the correct answer is C. 66.67%.
