8 Books to Read to Improve Yourself. We are directing this post to everyone who desire to read and improve themselves. But this is especially directed at young people in their 20’s. 20 – 29 are years we make mistakes and learn every day. Reading books make us smarter as we navigate through our lives with the wisdom of those before us. These are 8 books that will give you a head start towards the right path.
1. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
This book was written in 1937 as a public speaking manual for Dale’s Students. Since then it has grown into one of the best selling books of all time. Dale shows us the true importance of making friends, influencing people and the tricks behind it with real life examples. He uses a conversational style of writing so it is very easy to read and understand. I’m currently reading it for the second time.
2. The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham
From the Aso-Ebi’s we buy for our friends weddings to the clubbing, it is difficult to save or understand the principles to adopt in living a frugal life. Investing in our future is important today and Benjamin Graham makes it easy for us to think deeply into our financial stability in years to come.
3. Beloved by Toni Morrison
Many may not agree with this, but I think beloved is a must read classic novel. The psychological trauma above all inhumane circumstances faced by an American slave is greatly emphasized. The struggle for freedom, either by escape or death is what every slave longs for.
4. The Halleluyah Diet by George Malkmus
As a youth, it is presumptuous to think that we can eat or drink anything and get away with it. Well, that can be true, but illnesses in the future can be prevented if we start now to live healthy lifestyles. No one is telling you to become a vegetarian overnight. George gives you a breakdown of everything you eat and its benefits or effects. So, read, choose your food wisely and know that moderation is key.
5. 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene
I recommend for mature minds in their 20’s. This book is powerfully written and proven with results. This book is a must have for every aspiring leader.
6. As a Man Thinketh by James Allen
Whatever you set your eyes to achieve you can. Your only limitation is you. This is a book that supports a positive mindset, zeal and diligence towards achieving your goals.
7. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven R. Covey:
Covey presents an approach to being effective in attaining goals by aligning oneself to what he calls “true north” principles of a character ethic that he presents as universal and timeless.
8. The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene
Everyone is seduced or use the art of seduction in our interaction with people daily. You are definitely going to be seduced by your boss, family and friends through your adult years and the idea is to know every trick.
